STRANGER THINGS Season 4: RIFTED
creative director // giant spoon
To usher in the highly-anticipated fourth season of Stranger Things, Netflix was looking for a traffic-stopping, otherworldly stunt to ignite fan love around the world, and ensure their flagship show stood out in the sea of streaming content. Our idea? Create IRL rifts that could truly bring the Upside Down into the real world, placing them on landmarks across the globe - from Prague to Malaysia - but first, New York’s most iconic skyscraper. With a 500 foot tall, first of its kind projection, we transformed the entire southern face of the Empire State Building into a portal to the Upside Down and brought the city to a standstill. Our rift blurred the lines between spectacle and interaction, immersive tech and nostalgia, and became the anchor stunt that spurred reality-bending activations around the globe…not to mention, made Stranger Things the #1 most streamed English language show in Netflix history.
WINNER: Grand CLIO, TV/Series, Innovation; Gold CLIO, TV/Series, OOH Takeover
